fatal Florida bicycle accident
Close to 1:30 in the afternoon of this past Wednesday, a young child riding a bicycle along the road in Orlando was struck and killed by a motorist. The early reports issued in connection with this incident were incredibly scant, most likely out of respect for the family’s privacy as they began to mourn the tragic loss of their child, but the Orlando Police Department did update their initial statement with more details as the case progressed and the family consented to having the facts disseminated.
A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol recently announced that they have made an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident that occurred on Sept. 22, 2012, near Apopka. The suspect, 24-year-old Ryan Scott Peterson, turned himself in to troopers recently and faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident causing death. He is charged with causing the death of a 31-year-old bicyclist, who was found on the shoulder of Orange Blossom Trail around 8 a.m. on Sept. 22. Troopers say that the victim had been struck and killed hours earlier while riding along OBT.
