2014 Daytona Beach Biketoberfest Recap
The 2014 Biketoberfest was held in Daytona Beach, Florida from October 16-19. Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts cruised the roads of eastern Florida, and enjoyed music, food and lots of entertainment. Estimates place the total number at 500,000, but more conservative estimates drop that number all the way to 250,000. Unfortunately, there were two accidents which resulted in the deaths of two festival-goers, and there was one possibly dangerous situation at a local bar.
Another Round of Toyota Recalls
On Wednesday, October 15th, Toyota Motor Company announced a recall of nearly 2 million vehicles. The company, based in Japan, said that it would recall 1.67 million vehicles world-wide. According to the company, some vehicles experience brake failure or poor brake performance. This is due to faults in the master cylinder of the braking system, and other related, unspecified defects.

Results of Florida’s Texting While Driving Ban
It’s been over one year since the "texting while driving" ban became law in the state of Florida. The law took effect on Oct. 1, 2013, and authorities say that it has helped reduce the instances of texting while driving, as well as accidents that were caused by distracted drivers typing away on their mobile devices.
Orlando Grandmother Allows Toddler to Drive, Causing Multiple Collisions
Orlando police recently arrested a grandmother for allowing her 3-year-old grandson to steer her car in the parking lot of an apartment complex, where it collided with several other cars. Police say that incident occurred at The Serrano Apartments near Cypress Woods Drive. A witness told officers that he heard a crash in the parking lot and saw a gold, four-door Chrysler crash head-on into a parked car and then back into another vehicle. The witness told police that he could clearly see the child standing in the lap of the woman and steering her car.
Melbourne Man Killed in Kissimmee Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident
Florida Highway Patrol troopers report that a 26-year-old Melbourne man was struck and killed recently near the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Osceola County. Troopers say that the victim had bent down to retrieve some keys when he was struck and killed by a black 2007 Mazda sport utility vehicle near the intersection of Old Vineland Road and North Poinciana Boulevard. The accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. when the victim and three friends were driving to a nearby hotel. Apparently, the victim was dangling his arm out the window of the car when he accidentally dropped his keys.
Road Agencies Taking Action After Recent Florida Wrong-Way Accidents
A surge in horrific wrong-way accidents on central Florida roadways has inspired some road agencies to install new signage and implement other remedies to prevent similar accidents. The Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and the Central Florida Expressway Authority are installing larger "wrong way" signs and lowering them for greater visibility near some of the sites of recent wrong-way accidents. The agencies are also adding flashing lights to the signage in order to make them even more visible to motorists who may become confused and drive onto the wrong on-ramp.
Drunk Driver Injured Three Winter Park Construction Workers
Winter Park police report that a witness helped them track down and arrest a suspect who drove his car into three construction workers and drove away from the accident scene. Police investigators say that they strongly suspect that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and are waiting for toxicology reports before charging the suspect with felony DUI and other charges. Police report that the accident occurred around 11 p.m. on Fairbanks Avenue near Rollins College.
Study Finds Google Glass No Safer to use While Driving Than Smartphones
Orlando texting accident attorneys are not surprised to learn the results of a recent report regarding drivers using Google Glass, a personal telecommunication/computing device that users attach to their eyeglasses. Researchers conducting a distracted driving study involving texting and driving using Google Glass found the hands-free eyewear is no safer to use while driving than a smartphone or any other telecommunication device. Google Glass allows users to send text messages via head commands and voice transcription technology.
Florida Road Rage Incident Pours Over Into Ikea
Incidents of road rage seem to be a way of life now in the United States. Instances of angry drivers confronting each other, or trying to bully someone on the road, occur in every state of the USA. Recently, one of these instances poured off the roadway, and into an Ikea store in Orlando.
