Florida Road Rage Incident Pours Over Into Ikea
Incidents of road rage seem to be a way of life now in the United States. Instances of angry drivers confronting each other, or trying to bully someone on the road, occur in every state of the USA. Recently, one of these instances poured off the roadway, and into an Ikea store in Orlando.
On Saturday Sept 23, 2014, two men allegedly waved their guns at another driver at the intersection of Walden Circle and Vineland Road. The driver followed the two suspects and called the police. The two men, Larry Lawrence and Richard Holloway, were driving a rented Chevy Impala, which police stopped a lot near Ikea near the Mall at Millenia.
Ikea was evacuated. Employees sounded the fire alarm, which forced all customers to flee to the parking lot. Police rushed into the furniture store with their guns drawn and found the suspects hiding. Witnesses say the suspects were peaceful and did not resist, so the arrest happened without further incident. No gun was found at the Ikea store, nor in the car, so police are assuming the suspects hid or disposed of the weapon prior to being arrested.
Customers inside the store said that the suspects were calmly browsing the aisles before the alarm sounded. They were trying to blend in and hide among the many customers. Four police apprehended the suspects and then interviewed them in their cruiser. They were then taken to jail, where they were being held on a $8300 bond.
Charges were filed, including a third-degree aggravated assault with a firearm against Mr. Lawrence, and a second-degree possession of a firearm by a convicted felon against Mr. Holloway. Holloway is a registered sex offender in Georgia. It is unclear if Holloway was allowed to leave the state of Georgia.
Witnesses and bystanders were not injured in the evacuation, nor during the arrest. Children that were in the care-area were escorted outside by store employees, and quickly reunited with their parents. The store re-opened about one hour later.
