FSU Releases More Information On MagLab Accident
Florida State University officials have released more information about the Wednesday morning accident that killed a mechanical worker at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory on campus. Authorities were alerted just after 10am Wednesday morning of the incident and first responders rushed to the scene. When they arrived, the pronounced the victim dead at the scene of an apparent head trauma.
Single Vehicle Rollover in Ocala Injures Two
A single vehicle rollover accident early Saturday evening sent two victims to the hospital and one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Florida Highway Patrol reports that the single vehicle accident occurred just after 7pm Saturday night on I-75. The driver of a late model Ford Explorer appeared to lose control of the vehicle for an unknown reason while traveling southbound on the interstate. The vehicle left the roadway and ended up on the right shoulder where paramedics found the wreck. The deceased was a male passenger in the Explorer. A man and a woman were also transported to area hospitals with life threatening injuries.
Rise In Florida Pedestrian Deaths Concerns Officials
A sharp rise in the number of Lake County pedestrian deaths has officials very concerned about safety. To date in 2015, there have been 12 pedestrian deaths in the county. Comparatively, there were eight pedestrian deaths in all of 2014. The last year the number of victims was this high was 2011, when there were eleven deaths for the entire year.
Daytona Beach Accidents and Traffic Delays Plague Biketoberfest
Biketoberfest is a major event during the month of October in Volusia County in and around Daytona Beach. The four-day long festival celebrating everything about motorcycles brings people from many different walks of life and as far away as Alaska. The high concentration of biking enthusiasts also brings with it an increase in driving hazards, due to the larger than average number of motorcycles on Daytona’s streets and highways.
Palm Beach Intersection May Get Worse
The intersection of Andrew Redding and Lantana Road was the site of 42 accidents in 2014. Those the number of accident is down this year to just 11, but that number may increase sharply in the coming months. The intersection is very close to the location of the old Holley State Hospital, which was purchased by a developer and is now being converted into the Water Tower Commons.
Head-On Collision Claims the Life of UCF Student
An early morning collision on State Road 407 in Brevard County has claimed the life of a UCF student. The Florida Highway Patrol indicates that shortly after midnight, a Honda CRV driven by a 20-year-old female was westbound on State Road 407, when an eastbound Honda Pilot veered towards her vehicle. The two vehicles collided head-on in the middle of the highway. The driver of the CRV died at the scene and the male driver of the Honda Pilot was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. What caused the Pilot to swerve into oncoming traffic is still under investigation at this time.
Miami Beach Condo Tower Explosion Injures Several
An explosion in a top floor boiler room at the oceanside condominium rocked the surrounded neighbors last Friday, injuring several people. Three construction workers on the new Sunny Isles Beach Condominium complex were either inside or in close proximity to the boiler room when the explosion occurred and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the blast. Witnesses at the nearby Chateau Beach residences were also injured by falling debris, though none were serious. Many people in the area heard the blast and initially thought it may have been terrorism, but officials have confirmed that it was an accident.
Tampa Construction Worker Dies After Work-Related Tragedy
A construction worker was killed earlier this month while he and his crew mates were doing pavement work on Veteran’s Expressway. Kimbrough Haines, 26, was working with the crew in the northbound lane on Veteran’s Expressway, just north of Hillsborough Avenue, when he was struck and killed by a dump truck driven by a fellow crew member. The driver of the dump truck, Ruben Garcia, 20, did not see Haines standing behind the truck, when he put the vehicle into reverse and struck him. Haines was run over by the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. Charges against the driver are still pending.
Altamonte Springs Skateboarder in Critical Condition after a Hit-and-Run Accident
A teenager from Altamonte Springs remains in critical condition after he was struck along with another skateboarder in a hit-and-run accident late Saturday night.
Fiery Crash on a Florida Turnpike Takes the Lives of Three
A Georgia couple and their infant daughter were killed early Sunday morning when their Nissan Maxima flipped and became engulfed in flames after being rear-ended by a Mercedes SUV. Thomas Garza, 23, and his fiancé, Lillian Luna, 20, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while their daughter died later that day at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital. Family of the victims reported that the couple was on their way to Disney World to celebrate their daughter’s first birthday.
