Head-On Collision Claims the Life of UCF Student
An early morning collision on State Road 407 in Brevard County has claimed the life of a UCF student. The Florida Highway Patrol indicates that shortly after midnight, a Honda CRV driven by a 20-year-old female was westbound on State Road 407, when an eastbound Honda Pilot veered towards her vehicle. The two vehicles collided head-on in the middle of the highway. The driver of the CRV died at the scene and the male driver of the Honda Pilot was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. What caused the Pilot to swerve into oncoming traffic is still under investigation at this time.
There are many factors that could have been contributors to this accident. Though the time of day may suggest that alcohol may have been a factor, it may be other causes. Fatigue is often a factor in the middle of the night when drivers have been up all day. Visibility could have also been an issue. Poor lighting conditions or fog could make seeing in the dark difficult, especially with oncoming traffic. Distractions such as changing the channel on the radio, picking something up off the floor, or an incoming call to a cell phone are all possibilities.
Whatever the reason is, the fact remains that a horrific incident caused the loss of one life and possible another. The female UCF was in the wrong place and the wrong time and it cost her own life. She may have taken the proper precautions, including wearing a seat belt and practicing defensive driving techniques, but the huge impact that a head-on collision creates may have been too much to overcome. The driver of the Pilot, though he may not have intended to do so, has forever altered his life and the lives of many others related to the victim.
