Driver Injured in Crash at Orange County Speed World Dragway
The Orlando Speed World Dragway is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Giving people both the opportunity to watch and participate in high-speed racing, it has become a place for professional and amateur racers to rub elbows, and for everyone present to enjoy the loud roar of engines pushed to their limit. However, this past Wednesday visitors to the Dragway witnessed a horrifying end to one individual’s race.
Bicyclist Killed by Semi Truck in Orlando
Early on Wednesday morning, a male bicyclist was riding his bike near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Taft Vineland Road when he was hit by a semi truck. The truck, which was being driven by an as-of-yet unnamed 37-year-old man from Orlando, was in the process of pulling out of a gas station located near the intersection when the cyclist approached. Apparently, he either did not see the cyclist or was unable to stop in time because the truck subsequently ran the cyclist over.
Florida Man Miraculously Survives Acrobatic Automobile Accident
A Florida man made headlines recently with a harrowing automobile crash in DeLand last weekend. For yet-unknown reasons, the driver lost control of his vehicle, sending it tumbling over two blocks along busy Woodland Boulevard, hitting a mailbox, bouncing off several parked ATVs and, as one eye witness recounts “doing four or five 360s in the air”. And that was just the first act. After the car finally stopped flipping down the road and came to a rest upside down, smoke immediately started billowing from its interior.
Two Injured in Brevard County I-95 Crash
On Wednesday afternoon, two vehicles were involved in a crash along Interstate 95, near Palm Bay in Brevard County, which resulted in two individuals suffering injuries and the closing of all southbound lanes and every lane but one along the northbound side of the interstate. The Florida Highway Patrol has issued a statement that describes the accident as they understand it so far. According to this statement, the two cars, a 2003 Mazda and a 2008 Dodge, were both progressing northbound on the highway. The Mazda, which was behind the Dodge, drew closer and closer and then, say the state troopers, the Mazda struck the Dodge without slowing down.
Ormond Beach Tree Trimmer Dead After Fall from Palm Tree
On Friday, July 22nd, around 2:15 in the afternoon, Thurman Hull, a 57-year-old who was employed by the Darryl Hamilton Tree Service, was trimming a tree at 1930 West Granada Boulevard when he fell from the ladder. The tree, which is described in the report from the Ormond Beach Police as being a big palm tree, was located at the back of a shopping plaza.
Osceola County Hit-and-Run Leaves One Dead
The Florida Highway Patrol has released a statement regarding the hit-and-run accident that occurred along Marigold Avenue and San Remo Road around 9:30pm in Kissimmee on Friday. The statement describes how a pedestrian, who has been identified as the 34-year-old Alexis Perez, from Kissimmee, was crossing the street when he crossed into the path of a Volvo driven by the 31-year-old Jeannie Marie Petrie, also from Kissimmee. Petrie was driving north on Marigold Avenue when Perez appeared before her. Petrie hit Perez with the Volvo and then proceeded to run her over. When emergency vehicles arrived they pronounced Perez dead at the scene.
51-Year-Old Cyclist Killed in Brevard County Crash
In Brevard County this past Thursday, a 2002 Chevy pickup truck driving south on US-1 across the St. Sebastian River Bridge collided with a bicycle headed north on the same highway. The cyclist, 59-year-old David Smith, a resident of Micco, was riding along US-1 and, according to the report, was on the white line painted on the highway’s border. The collision between the bicycle and the car was almost head-on, with the front right corner of the pickup colliding with the front tire of the bicycle, and caused Smith and his bike to collide with the concrete wall dividing the highway’s southbound shoulder from the city’s sidewalk. The bicycle was ultimately propelled over the wall and onto the sidewalk itself.
Port Orange Police Officer Injured in High-Speed Chase
During an attempt to stop a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase, Port Orange police officer David Vastell was stuck by the speeding vehicle, sustaining injuries that were non-lethal, but serious nonetheless.
15-Year-Old Killed in Orange County Hit-and-Run Collision
Early Wednesday morning, around 2:00 a.m., Nathan Francschi, a 15-year-old a resident of Orlando, was walking along Carpenter Road when he was hit and seriously injured by a vehicle. The driver of this vehicle did not call the authorities, and it is believed that they immediately fled the scene after hitting Francschi. The boy’s body was discovered on Carpenter Road, close to East Colonial Drive and Grissom Road, by another driver who was making his way home. This second driver immediately called 911. The emergency services rushed Francschi to Florida Hospital East, but due to the severity of his injuries, he died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Two Killed in Tuesday Night Auto Accident in DeLand
On Tuesday evening, around 9:00 p.m. near DeLand in Volusia County, two cars collided at the intersection of East New York Avenue and Jesse Michael Drive. The accident, which occurred east of Interstate 4, involved a four-door 2016 Chevrolet and a four-door 2002 Chrysler. According to a report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, the cars collided head-on at the intersection after the driver of the Chrysler, the 33-year-old Dustin Hayes from Deltona, veered his vehicle from the westbound lanes into the eastbound lanes. The Chevrolet, driven by the 57-year-old William Hellums from Port Orange, also contained the 31-year-old Rita Michaud.
