High-Speed Crash in East Gainesville Kills 2
A high-speed crash in East Gainesville on Tuesday morning has left two individuals dead and a small community bewildered. According to the news report linked to the incident, the accident involved the 20-year-old Kristian Barker and the 23-year-old Matthew Nakamura. Barker was behind the wheel of a BMW convertible and Nakamura was in the passenger side of the same car. The two were apparently out for a late night/early morning drive when they lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a roundabout located at Northeast 8th Avenue and 9th Street in East Gainesville.
Coco Police Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run along U.S. 1
On Sunday, Officer Rickford Leitch of the Cocoa Police Department was helping to escort a procession of individuals transporting the Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall through Cocoa and to Melbourne when he was hit by a car. The procession, an annual event that is widely attended and very popular among the citizens of the towns through which it passes, was traveling along U.S. 1 (which was recently ranked the most dangerous roadway in the country) when Officer Leitch was struck.
Construction Worker Critically Injured in Lake County Hit-and-Run
The Orlando Regional Medical Center currently has a patient within its walls that was injured while working on U.S. 27 and Frank Jarrell Road in Lake County on Tuesday Morning. According to a report, the injured construction worker, the 36-year-old Luciano Angeles, a resident of Lakeland, was part of a small crew doing maintenance along U.S. 27 close to 7:30 in the morning when the incident occurred. The report goes on to say that Angeles was standing outside of his pickup truck, although he was, according to all witnesses, far away from the roadway.
Accident in Orange County Causes Car to Split in Two, Kills Driver
A violent collision in Orange County between a car and several trees resulted in one fatality. The crash, which happened along Curry Ford Road and Cypress Springs Parkway, close to Alafaya Trail, happened close to 2:00 in the morning on Monday. Authorities are still at work investigating the case. As of this writing, there are still numerous questions that need to be answered with regards to the situation and exactly what happened.
Man from Indiantown Killed in Crash While on Bicycle
The Florida Highway Patrol has released the currently available details about the death of a 55-year-old man from Indiantown who died on Sunday night after being hit by a car. According to the report, the man, Phain Cecil Davis, was on his bicycle and riding down Southwest Farm Road. This road, a two lane road used for local traffic, is usually not very busy, although it is not clear whether or not there is an adequate amount of light covering the street at all times.
13-Year-Old Dies, Numerous Others Injured in DUI Hit-and-Run in Polk County
A 13-year-old boy has died and five other people injured in an accident that occurred in Polk County last Thursday afternoon. This horrific event was first responded to by a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was talking on the phone to his 11-year-old daughter at the time of the accident. The deputy, Jonathan “JJ” Quintana, is recorded as having told reporters that he was asleep when his daughter, who was on her way home from school, called him to see if he could pick her up from a nearby bus stop. Before he could even get off the phone, the daughter began to scream and call for help.
Avalon Park Residents Demand Better Street Lighting After Numerous Accidents
Avalon Park, a small, unincorporated town close to Orlando, has its residents up in arms after the most recent accident along Avalon Park Boulevard left a 15-year-old high school student dead and police searching for the driver of the motorcycle that killed him. This accident, which we wrote about in an earlier blog post, has been jarring for the residents of this close-knit town. As a result, Avalon Park residents are now being even more vigilant in their demand for proper lighting along their streets.
Individual Killed in One-Car Crash Near Disney World
On the afternoon of this past Saturday, an accident took place in Orange County that left one individual dead. The accident, which appears to only have involved the one car and its sole occupant, happened at around 3:30 in the afternoon, on a stretch of Hartzog Road that lies only a handful of miles away from Walt Disney World as well as the famous Disney attraction Animal Kingdom. The Florida Highway Patrol has released a statement regarding the event that outlines all of the details as they are currently known, although the report issued creates more questions than it does answers.
25-Year-Old Killed When Car Strikes Tree and Flips in Orange County Accident
Early on Tuesday morning a 25-year-old man named Anthony Disla from Apopka was driving through Orange County in a 2015 Nissan Altima. Westbound on State Road 50, the Altima was nearing the intersection of Colonial Drive and Semon Drive when Disla, for reasons that are currently under investigation, lost control of the vehicle. According to witness reports, the young Disla was trying to maneuver his Altima around traffic in front of him when this occurred.
High School Student Killed in Hit and Run in Orange County
Alec Gomez, a 15-year-old student at Timber Creek High School in Orange County, was hanging out with friends, skateboarding and yo-yoing this weekend, when he was struck by a motorcyclist close to where Avalon Park Boulevard and Pellicer Drive intersect. According to eyewitness reports from some of the other young people gathered at the location, Gomez was mindfully playing with his friends, carefully avoiding traffic, and being his normal, funny, and conscientious self when the incident occurred around midnight on Friday.
