Construction Worker Critically Injured in Lake County Hit-and-Run
The Orlando Regional Medical Center currently has a patient within its walls that was injured while working on U.S. 27 and Frank Jarrell Road in Lake County on Tuesday Morning. According to a report, the injured construction worker, the 36-year-old Luciano Angeles, a resident of Lakeland, was part of a small crew doing maintenance along U.S. 27 close to 7:30 in the morning when the incident occurred. The report goes on to say that Angeles was standing outside of his pickup truck, although he was, according to all witnesses, far away from the roadway.
While standing next to his vehicle, a semi truck driving down U.S. 27 came down the road, swerved off the main asphalt, and pinned Angeles between the two vehicles. After the incident, the semi truck continued to drive. It is not clear whether or not the individual behind the wheel of the semi truck was in any way aware of what had happened.
Angeles was immediately transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was admitted as being in critical condition. Currently, it is not known what his condition is. In the pickup truck against which Angeles was pinned, the 38-year-old Hector Olivera, also from Lakeland, was sitting. He was not injured in the accident as far as is known, however incidents involving large automobiles have a tendency to cause more damage than is immediately noticeable to those involved.
Currently, a search is ongoing for the semi truck and its driver. A description of the truck says that it is a red semi and that it is towing a large trailer behind it. Due to the violence of the impact between the trailer and the pickup, it is very likely that the semi will have damage along its right side, specifically the lower part of the front end of the cab. Additionally, it is believed that the truck is owned by a company called A-1 Concrete US LLC, a Lakeland construction company.
Since there is no individual yet in custody, the charges relating to this case are still pending. Additional information will be distributed as it is gathered.
