Sanford Police Search for Mini Cooper Involved in Hit-and-Run

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 13, 2020

Officers with the Sanford Police Department are looking for both a car and a driver after a hit-and-run accident that took place within the city on Thursday, December 3rd. While the accident happened early in December, it was not until the following Monday, December 7th, that the Sanford Police Department issued a statement indicating that they are still searching for the individual responsible. It is the hope of the SPD that by issuing a public statement, people might come forward with vital information concerning the location and identity of the person and the car involved.

The crash itself took place sometime during the evening on the Thursday in question. At this time, an individual on foot was attempting to cross the eastern lanes of French Avenue. The area where the individual was trying to cross was either at or just before the intersection between French Avenue and 25th Street.

At the same time as this person was leaving the sidewalk and crossing the road, a Mini Cooper traveling down the eastern lanes of French Avenue approached the area. It is not clear if the driver saw the pedestrian and attempted to avoid them or if the driver was distracted and therefore completely unaware of the pedestrian’s presence until it was too late. Of additional importance is whether or not the pedestrian was inside of a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

Before the driver of the car was able to swerve away from the pedestrian, the Mini Cooper struck the pedestrian with significant force. The driver of the Mini Cooper then sped away from the scene.

There were no witnesses to the crash, but when the police arrived they did find enough wreckage from the vehicle to be able to identify the car as being a Mini Cooper of a dark color. The debris recovered from the scene also indicates that the damage done to the vehicle focused on the car’s front end.

The pedestrian involved suffered from severe injuries and was rushed from the scene of the crash to a nearby hospital where they are believed to be slowly recovering.
