Driver Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident in Kissimmee

Florida Highway Patrol troopers recently charged a Kissimmee woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident that claimed the life of a 65-year-old man. Troopers said that they arrested the 27-year-old driver after receiving a tip about her severely damaged 2003 Kia Spectra. When confronted, she admitted to FHP traffic homicide investigators that she had struck and killed the man. She led troopers to the garage, where they found damage on the vehicle consistent with evidence collected at the accident scene.

Teen Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on State Road 436

A 13-year-old boy was struck and killed recently in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on State Road 436 in east Orange County. Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating the accident report that the teen was struck while attempting to cross at the intersection of Semoran Boulevard and Old Cheney Highway. Troopers say that the teen was using the crosswalk and had the right of way when he was struck by a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 51-year-old Winter Park woman. FHP Spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes said that the woman was traveling north on Semoran Boulevard when she ran a red light and struck the teen.

Police Officer Injured in DUI Hit-and-Run Crash

A St. Cloud Police officer is recovering from injuries he suffered when a suspected drunken driver struck his patrol car and then fled the scene of the accident. Investigators report that the officer’s car was struck around 10:45 p.m. near Old Canoe Creek and Neptune Roads in Osceola County. They say that the injured officer was conducting a normal patrol when his car was struck by a 49-year-old man, address unknown, who also suffered injuries in the hit-and-run accident. He was arrested shortly after the incident and now faces charges of DUI with serious bodily injuring, DUI with property damage and aggravated fleeing and eluding. He in being treated for undisclosed injuries at an area hospital and will be taken to the Osceola County Jail on release from the hospital. The injured officer was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital.

Kissimmee Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Auto Accident on I-4

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers are looking for the public’s assistance in finding the driver they think is responsible for a recent fatal hit-and-run accident on Interstate 4 in Orlando. The crash claimed the life of a 61-year-old Kissimmee man, who was driving to work at Lake Eola Charter School, where he taught history and social studies. FHP troopers report that the man suffered fatal injuries when he lost control of his 2008 Hyundai, which left the roadway and struck a palm tree in the median around 6:22 a.m. near Orange Blossom Trail.

Stuntman Faces DUI Charges After Series of Accidents

A Seminole County man who is a famous movie stuntman may now be infamous after a series of hit-and-run incidents on Feb 13. Orlando police say that Grady Allen Bishop, 51, of Winter Springs, caused more than $10,000 worth of damage to several parked cars, a parking meter and lamppost in downtown Orlando. He faces several charges including driving while under the influence with property damage and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

Florida Hit-and-Run Awareness Campaign Begins This Month

Regular readers of this blog may remember a post from last summer about a 69-year-old Orlando man who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while attempting to cross the street in his wheelchair. Orlando police are still looking for the driver who killed this man and drove off to avoid taking responsibility. He was one of 23 people who were struck and killed by hit-and-run drivers in Central Florida last year. In a move strongly supported by James O. Cunningham and other Orlando personal injury attorneys, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles recently added a new page on their website, which will describe cold case hit-and-run accidents throughout Florida. The page was added as part of a new campaign to help combat hit-and-run driving and help law enforcement officials apprehend the people responsible for hit-and-run accidents.

Hit-and-Run Driver Who Injured Four-Year-Old Boy Arrested

Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man they say is responsible for a hit-and-run accident that injured a four-year-old boy early this month. Deputies say that the 19-year-old suspect has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license and burglary of an unoccupied structure. He is being held without bond in the Volusia County jail. Investigating officers say that the suspect lost control of his vehicle in a road rage incident with the driver of a green pickup truck. Deputies are still looking for the driver of the truck, as they want to interview him for additional details about the accident. Deputies told local reporters that the driver of the truck would not face any charges in connection with this hit-and-run accident.

Rider Seriously Injured in Florida Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident

Police are investigating a hit-and-run motorcycle accident in Casselberry that sent a rider to the hospital with serious injuries. The accident occurred at State Road 436 and Casselton Drive, just north of Aloma Avenue. Police are looking for the driver of a black SUV or sedan who struck the rider and then fled the scene. They believe that the motorcyclist and the driver who struck him were traveling side-by-side in separate lanes when the driver may have swerved into the rider’s lane to avoid construction work in the roadway. They believe that the maneuver caused the driver to collide with and seriously injure the rider. Anyone with any information about the accident is asked to contact the Casselberry Police Department.

Florida Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident

Daytona Beach police are looking for the driver of a sports utility vehicle who struck and killed a 22-year-old Daytona Beach woman on Jan. 30. Accident investigators report that the accident occurred at the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and South Oleander Avenue around 2:15 a.m. The victim was riding her bike westbound in the outside lane of International Speedway Boulevard when she was struck from behind by a Nissan SUV. Police say that the driver of the Nissan made no attempt to stop after colliding with the bicyclist and that the impact threw her from her bicycle. The SUV was last seen heading westbound over the International Speedway Boulevard Bridge.
