Homeless Man Killed in Miami Hit and Run
A homeless man was struck and killed in Miami’s Little Havana district early Saturday morning, according to authorities. The victim’s name was Victoriano Fernandez and he was known to others among the community. Fernandez was attempting to cross Northwest Seventh Street with his walker when he was struck by a silver Mazda. Fernandez was air lifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries a short time later.
Hit and Run Suspect’s Traffic Records Reveal Several Incidents
The driver of the vehicle that fatally injured an Orlando bicyclist early Sunday evening has more than 20 traffic violations over the past few years according to court records. Adriana Velasquez is accused of striking and killing Steven Michael Williams II with her SUV while he was riding his bike on the street next to the curb. Velasquez is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Eye witnesses told police that Ms. Velasquez sped off after striking Williams, who was injured and on the side of the road.
Search Continues for Hit and Run Driver in Orlando
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are on the lookout for a white Toyota Camry, which they say was involved in a hit-and-run incident early Thursday morning, October 23, 2014. Witnesses did not have a description of the driver of the vehicle, but said it was traveling at a high rate of speed. The incident happened in an Aldi parking lot on Colonial Drive, where the speed limit is five to ten miles per hour.
Melbourne Man Killed in Kissimmee Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident
Florida Highway Patrol troopers report that a 26-year-old Melbourne man was struck and killed recently near the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Osceola County. Troopers say that the victim had bent down to retrieve some keys when he was struck and killed by a black 2007 Mazda sport utility vehicle near the intersection of Old Vineland Road and North Poinciana Boulevard. The accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. when the victim and three friends were driving to a nearby hotel. Apparently, the victim was dangling his arm out the window of the car when he accidentally dropped his keys.
Suspect Identified in Florida Hit-and-Run Crash
Leesburg police are looking for the suspect in a June hit-and-run collision that left a 17-year-old girl seriously injured. An arrest warrant has been issued for a 25-year-old Kasson Kwame Ford. According to authorities, Ford was driving a Lincoln Continental near the intersection of Montclair Road and Thomas Avenue when he failed to stop for a stop sign and hit a red pickup truck driven by the 17-year-old victim. The victim was thrown from the vehicle, but survived the crash. Ford is charged with leaving the scene of a serious accident.
Police Impound Vehicle and Interview Suspects in Connection with Florida Hit-and-Run Accident
Lakeland police officers say that they are confident that a 2006 Jeep Wrangler they recently impounded is the vehicle involved in a recent hit-and-run accident that killed a 44-year-old Eustis man. They also report that they have interviewed two people they believe were involved in the accident. Police say that the accident occurred around 2 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Florida Avenue in Lakeland when the suspect blew through a construction zone where the victim and the rest of the crew were working on a pedestrian-safety project. Witnesses say that after striking the victim, the driver of the Jeep fled the scene of the accident without stopping to render assistance.
Florida Trooper Chases Down Hit-and-Run Driver
A Florida Highway patrolman chased down a hit-and-run driver in his own damaged vehicle following the incident Wednesday afternoon. The suspect ran a red light at the intersection of West Colonial Drive and Hiawassee Road, striking the police cruiser. The driver then attempted to flee the scene by driving on to a nearby apartment complex. The patrolman pursued the suspect and apprehended him as the suspect fled on foot.
Trial May Begin in Late July for Orange County Hit and Run Driver
The suspect in an April hit-and-run crash that fatally wounded a 4-year-old Winter Park girl could be facing trial as early as the end of July according to Orange County officials. According to his attorney, the accused does not wish to waive his right to a speedy trial. Trial is currently set to begin on July 28.
FHP asks for Public’s Help in Fatal Hit-and-Run Orlando Pedestrian Accident
Orlando pedestrian accident attorneys are growing increasingly concerned that recent efforts to protect pedestrians and bicyclists from being struck and injured or killed are falling short of their goals. In February 2013, the Florida Department of Transportation released their Florida Pedestrian and Bicycle Strategic Safety Plan, which provided a framework for reducing fatalities and injuries on Florida roadways. State safety officials began the study after data showed that Florida pedestrian accident fatality rates were nearly double the national average and bicycle accident fatality rates were nearly triple the national average.
FHP Troopers Seeking Public’s Help in Hit-and-Run Accident that Killed Two Women in Pine Hills
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are asking for the public’s help after a recent hit-and-run accident that killed two Orlando women. Troopers say that the 53-year-old and 78-year-old female victims of the accident were longtime friends and neighbors in Orlando’s Richmond Estates neighborhood. Troopers report that the women were traveling together after their weekly trip to the grocery store when a driver running a red light struck their vehicle in Pine Hills and fatally injured them both.
