An Oakland Park man wanted in connection with a recent fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident now faces charges, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Officers report that the man faces multiple charges including failing to stop or remain at the scene of a fatal accident, driving with a suspended license and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. The 37-year-old suspect is being held in the Broward County jail on $65,500 bail, which includes a previous warrant for driving on a suspended license.
The hit-and-run bicycle accident killed a 17-year-old Oakland Park youth who was riding his bike on Prospect Road around 9:40 p.m. The victim was riding in the crosswalk at Powerline Road when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV driven by the suspect. The suspect then fled from the scene and had been at large until recently, when officers received a tip about the Tahoe’s location. Officers found the Tahoe in the 700 block of Commercial Boulevard and apprehended the suspect. The vehicle had received some repairs after the accident for heavy damage to the left front headlight, grill and driver’s side view mirror.
