Upgraded Charges for Driver Involved in Fatal Lake County Car Crash
After posting a $3,000 bond for drug and DUI charges stemming from an auto accident that severely injured a 5-year-old child over the weekend, a 30-year-old man from Tavares could now face serious prison time after the young car crash victim passed away on Sunday.
Initial reports from the Florida Highway Patrol working within Lake County indicate that it was close to 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, when a 29-year-old mother from Mount Dora and her 5-year-old son were travelling in the eastbound direction of State Road 448 in a Honda Civic. As the pair approached the vicinity of Shirley Shores Road, 30-year-old Daksh Wadhwa appeared from the westbound direction in a BMW 740i, crossed over the center line dividing the highway, and violently slammed into the side of the Honda Civic.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and emergency response teams in Lake County arrived at the scene of the car crash and immediately secured both of the badly injured accident victims from the Honda Civic. The severely injured 5-year-old was medevaced to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in critical condition while his mother was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle, 30-year-old Daksh Wadhwa, remained at the crash site after the collision occurred and provided routine breathalyzer test when requested by members of the Florida Highway Patrol. Wadhwa registered a 0.189 and was subsequently arrested for DUI with serious bodily injury and possession of cocaine.
Sadly, the 5-year-old victim was unable to survive the severity of his injuries and he died late Sunday evening. Authorities have now upgraded the charges against Wadhwa to DUI manslaughter and a new warrant has been issued for his arrest. He has not been taken into custody at the time of this writing.
