Deputy Injured During DUI Crash in Hillsborough County
A 34-year-old driver was arrested for her alleged connection to an auto accident that injured a Hillsborough County deputy earlier this morning at the intersection of East Lumsden Road and South Valrico Road in Brandon.
Although several details surrounding this collision are still under investigation, preliminary reports from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office indicate that shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, an HCSO deputy was driving his department-issued, marked Chevy Tahoe in the southbound direction of South Valrico Road in response to a dispatch call. As the officer approached the upcoming intersection with East Lumsden Road, 34-year-old Brittney Moore entered the area from the eastern direction of East Lumsden Road in a Nissan Murano. She failed to yield for the red stoplight controlling her flow of traffic and crashed into the deputy’s Chevy Tahoe.
Emergency response teams in Hillsborough County arrived at the scene of the accident and immediately transported the officer to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries to his upper body.
Responding deputies at the crash site stated that the other driver, 34-year-old Brittney Moore, was showing signs of impairment after the collision occurred and she was taken into custody. Authorities administered standard field sobriety tests and Moore registered a .066 and .068 BAC three hours after the accident. She has since been charged with driving under the influence with property damage/non-serious personal injury.
Accidents involving drunk drivers have sadly been on the rise here in the state of Florida, and while this particular incident was thankfully a minor one, these types of collisions usually result in the death of an innocent victim, more often than not. Losing a loved one is bad enough, but if the victim was a primary caregiver and breadwinner for the household, the trickle-down effects of their death can be close to catastrophic. This is why it’s crucial to have a dedicated car accident attorney by your side.
