Driver Faces DUI Charges After Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Titusville
Nearly seven months after the initial incident took place, a 27-year-old man has finally been arrested for his alleged connection to a deadly motorcycle accident that claimed the life of his passenger last Memorial Day in Titusville.
According to thorough investigative reports from detectives with the Titusville Police Department, it was approximately 4:30 p.m. on May 31, 2022, when Cocoa resident Tyler John Zimmerman, who was 26 at the time, was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the southbound direction of South Washington Avenue with his 29-year-old passenger Kristen Ann Kief from West Virginia. As the pair approached the street’s upcoming intersection with Riveredge Drive, the motorcycle rear-ended a 61-year-old Cocoa man who was behind the wheel of a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM.
Officers with the Titusville Police Department and Brevard County emergency response teams raced to the scene of the car vs. motorcycle accident and quickly rushed 29-year-old Kristen Ann Kief to a local hospital. Sadly, due to the severity of her injuries, she passed away shortly upon arrival. Nobody else was harmed during the collision.
After noticing signs of impairment from Tyler John Zimmerman, including the smell of alcohol, authorities with the Titusville Police Department proceeded to administer a routine field sobriety test to the drunk driving suspect. Reports indicate that Zimmerman registered a BAC level that was 1.53 times higher than the legal limit for the state of Florida. He also allegedly indicated that he “had no recollection of his own passenger” when questioned by officers regarding the fatal motorcycle collision.
Tyler John Zimmerman was arrested Wednesday morning and taken to a local jail where he faces charges related to driving under the influence and the subsequent death of the 29-year-old victim.
