Drunk Driver Crashes Through Crime Scene in Orlando
According to preliminary collision reports from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and other participating law enforcement agencies in Orlando, a 31-year-old drunk driver plowed his vehicle through the crime scene of a fatal two-car collision along Hoffner Avenue late Friday evening. Arresting officers have indicated that the Brevard County resident was nearly four times the legal intoxication limit at the time of his arrest following the accident.
It was approximately 9:50 p.m. on Friday, November 13th, 2020, when officers with the Orlando Police Department as well as troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to 9-1-1 calls of a deadly head-on collision that had occurred on Hoffner Avenue near Conway Road. After setting up a police barricade around the intersection and activating their emergency lights to alert other drivers in the area to the road closure, officers proceeded to secure the crime scene while EMTs attended to the severely injured victims. Suddenly, and seemingly out of nowhere, a Ford Fusion hybrid driven by 31-year-old Colter Anderson crashed through the police barricade and slammed into the passenger side of an officer’s marked vehicle which was parked and illuminated from the previous collision.
A statement from Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kim Montes indicates that almost immediately after the drunk driver accident, officers noticed an overwhelming smell of alcohol radiating from the smashed sedan. After the Merritt Island drunk driver stumbled over his words and struggled to maintain his balance, officers initiated a field sobriety test which he failed. After Mr. Anderson was arrested for driving under the influence following the crash, two additional blood alcohol tests were administered at the police station which registered a .383 and .371. These disturbing results are over four times the legal limit in Florida. It was later discovered that the suspect had “open containers of vodka” in his vehicle at the time of the accident.
