One Person Killed in Early Morning Orlando Car Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 20, 2019

An unusual series of events has resulted in the death of a 24-year-old person from Orlando who was struck and killed by a car on Willowwood Street. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicated that the incident took place on Monday, February 18th, close to 2:15 in the morning.

At this time, two individuals were traveling down the southern lane of Willowwood Street in a 2017 Kia. Behind the wheel of the car was a 21-year-old person from Orlando. In the passenger seat was the above-mentioned 24-year-old. For reasons that are not clear, the 24-year-old exited the vehicle. It is not known if the car was still moving, or if the driver had stopped to allow the passenger to leave. It is not known if any argument or altercation had occurred between the two individuals. What does seem clear is that after the 24-year-old exited the vehicle, the 21-year-old driver sped away down Willowwood.

After an unknown amount of time, the driver turned the car around and began traveling north down Willowwood Street. It was as they neared the intersection of Willowwood and Providence Circle that the driver once again encountered the passenger who had exited only a few minutes before. The reports state that the 24-year-old was now either lying down or sitting in the road. It is not known if they were sitting in the center of the lane or if they were along the shoulder, but it does appear certain that they were on the asphalt in either a total or nearly total supine state. It is not known if the driver of the car saw the 24-year-old or if their presence in the road came as a complete surprise, but the Kia struck the individual while still traveling at an advanced rate of speed.

It is not known who called the emergency response crews to the area, but we do know that when paramedics and EMTs arrived they declared the 24-year-old dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation determined that the driver of the car was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, although no other information was immediately available.
