Volusia County Wrong-Way Crash Claims the Life of a 59-Year-Old Ormond Beach Man
Preliminary collision reports from the investigative authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that a 59-year-old man from Ormond Beach suffered fatal injuries Wednesday evening during a wrong-way accident with another motorist along State Road 50 in Volusia County.
According to troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Volusia County, it was shortly after 7:30 p.m. on February 16, 2022, when a 59-year-old old man from Ormond Beach, whose name has not yet been released, was driving a Chevy Blazer in the eastern direction of State Road 40 close to Appaloosa Lane. For reasons that are currently unknown, the driver’s vehicle veered into the westbound lane of S.R. 40 and into the direct path of an oncoming pickup truck that was being driven by a 69-year-old man who is also from Ormond Beach. Neither man was able to employ corrective measures in order to avoid a crash, and the two vehicles collided head-on.
Within a matter of minutes, local Volusia County emergency responders and officials with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the deadly accident. As soon as they arrived at the crash site, they rushed over to the pickup truck and SUV to assist the injured drivers, however, due to the severe nature of his injuries, the 59-year-old driver of the Chevy Blazer had already passed away. He was declared dead at the scene. The 69-year-old driver of the pickup was transported to the Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach in serious condition. Additional information regarding his medical status has not been disclosed.
This case is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Further details are expected to be released once the case has been closed.
