Three Pedestrians Injured After Car Careens Through Publix Parking Lot

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 15, 2020

Shoppers at a shopping center located within The Villages were injured and terrified on Monday, March 2nd, when a driver lost control of their car and careened through the parking lot. A crash report filed by officers working within The Villages indicated that it was sometime during the day when a 55-year-old individual was behind the wheel of his car. The driver had either just finished up within one of the stores located at the shopping center or was looking for a parking spot in order to begin their shopping. The shopping center is home to a Publix as well as the popular Salon Jaylee and lies along Wedgewood Lane, very close to where Wedgewood intersects with East County Road 466.

It was as the individual was driving their two-door Mercedes through the parking lot that they suffered from a medical episode. What exactly this consisted of is not entirely clear, but we do know that the severity of it was such that it caused the individual to lose control of the car as it began to race through the parking area.

Pedestrians in the parking area scattered as the vehicle thumped over a sidewalk and began crashing into large planters placed close to the buildings. The car struck these planters with such force that large pieces of material shot out and struck people close by. At least one person was injured as a result of this debris.

The car rushed along the sidewalk for a few moments further, hitting at least one person in front of Salon Jaylee as well as a parked car and several large concrete pillars. The impact between the car and the large pillars again caused hunks of debris to shoot into the surrounding area. It is believed that a portion of this struck a 13-year-old child.

Emergency response crews were called immediately and rushed to the scene after the incident. Each of the three pedestrians struck by the Mercedes was taken to a hospital with injuries described as serious. It is not known if the driver of the Mercedes was stabilized after the accident. It is also not known if they suffered from any injuries as a result of the crash.
