Teenager Killed During Rear-End Car Crash on I-4 in Polk County
After three days of relentless and diligent police work, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol have successfully identified a 19-year-old victim who suffered fatal injuries earlier this week after she was involved in a two-car crash along State Road 400 in Polk County.
Preliminary details surrounding the fatal auto accident indicate that it was close to 6:15 a.m. on September 6, 2022, when a 41-year-old man from Orlando was driving a Lexus with 4 passengers in the eastbound direction within the outside lane of Interstate 4 in Polk County. As he approached the area of mile marker 26, the driver of the Lexus fell asleep at the wheel, lost control of the vehicle, and veered into the oncoming traffic The Lexus then crashed into the back-end of a Dodge pickup truck that was traveling in the center lane of the interstate. The impact from the rear-end collision caused the Lexus to spin out-of-control before crashing into a concrete barrier located on the side of the road.
Local Polk County emergency response teams and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of the deadly collision and quickly discovered that a 19-year-old female passenger of the Lexus had sustained severe injuries during the crash and had already passed away. In addition to the teenager, four other people received minor injuries during the accident: the 41-year-old driver of the Lexus, his 18-year-old and 23-year-old passengers, and the 48-year-old man from Ruskin who was driving the Dodge.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating this deadly car crash. No official charges have been filed at the time of this writing, although that could change depending on the outcome of the case.
