SUV Overturns Onto Popular Beach in Flagler County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 31, 2020

A tan SUV was involved in a rollover accident along a popular beach in Flagler County on Tuesday, December 15th, resulting in an ongoing operation by the Flagler Beach Fire Rescue to clean up the debris and make the area safe for beach-goers once more. The incident took place sometime during the afternoon, at a time when people are often walking along the beach and enjoying the view across the ocean. Thankfully, at this particular moment, there was nobody on the beach in the area where the vehicle was traveling.

The driver of the vehicle, not named or described in the preliminary reports, was driving their SUV down the northern lanes of A1A. It was when they entered the 2300 block of the area that something happened to cause the driver to slightly lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the front tires struck the curb of the median that separates the northern and southern lanes of the highway. Attempting to regain control of the car, the driver then tried to correct the wheel’s course, an action that resulted in them overcorrecting instead.

As a result, the SUV shot off of the roadway, hit a sand dune, and went airborne onto the beach. Again, this was a time of day when pedestrians are often seen walking along the beach, which lies close to numerous residential areas. It was extremely fortunate that at this time there was nobody nearby to be struck by the careening vehicle.

Emergency response crews, including police, paramedics, and EMTs, rushed to the scene. The driver of the car was carefully removed from the vehicle and examined, but the reports state that they apparently escaped from the ordeal without suffering from any injuries.

Pictures from the scene are striking, and they show the solitary vehicle lying on its driver side, tilted at an angle towards the beach. Debris from the vehicle – including pieces of the car and objects ejected from the car’s interior – litter the sand around the crash site.

The investigation into the single-car crash remains underway. It is not known if the authorities are considering issuing any charges in relation to the crash.
