Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in Osceola County
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are currently requesting the public’s assistance with the identification of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian last Saturday morning along an on-ramp in Osceola County.
According to preliminary details discovered by members of the Florida Highway Patrol working within Osceola County, it was close to 5:40 a.m. on July 30, 2022, when a 56-year-old woman from Kissimmee was driving her Kia Optima in the northbound direction of the Poinciana Parkway entrance ramp. It was as her sedan was approaching the vicinity of Marigold Avenue that a pedestrian, whose name has yet to be released to the public, was suddenly in the middle of the road and in the direct path of the oncoming Kia Optima. The driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid a collision with this individual and crashed into the pedestrian, who was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.
Shortly after the first collision occurred, a second vehicle entered the area and ran over the injured pedestrian who was still lying in the roadway at that time. This vehicle did not stop after crashing into the victim and fled the scene of the accident.
Although there were a few witnesses at the crash site when responding officers with the Florida Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, including the 56-year-old female driver and her 54-year-old male passenger from the Kia Optima, no one was able to give an accurate description of the hit-and-run driver or their vehicle since it was still dark outside when the collision occurred.
The pedestrian accident victim did not survive the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene by Osceola County emergency response teams. The local medical examiner is currently working to determine the identity of the deceased individual.
