Passenger Dies After Being Ejected from Pickup in I-4 Crash in Osceola County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 2, 2020

Two individuals were involved in a single-car crash that happened within Osceola County on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 22nd. The accident was violent and happened while the only vehicle involved, a pickup truck, was traveling at an advanced rate of speed. It is extremely fortunate that no other vehicles were involved in the incident as it took place along a very busy stretch of Interstate 4 at a time when there are usually quite a few vehicles traveling along the roadway.

Reports that currently exist concerning the late September crash come courtesy of state troopers working with the Florida Highway Patrol. Reports from this law enforcement organization say that it was close to 3:30 in the afternoon when a man was driving a pickup truck down Interstate 4. A 20-year-old woman was in the passenger side of the pickup, and it is believed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

At an unspecified point along the road, something happened within the cab of the vehicle to cause the driver to lose control. The truck swerved across the roadway while the driver presumably grappled to regain control over the vehicle. Their efforts, however, were of no consequence and the car shot across all the corresponding travel lanes of I-4 and struck the center guardrail with enough force to cause the vehicle to overturn. The woman in the passenger side of the pickup truck was ejected while the pickup was overturning, and as a result she sustained severe injuries that went far beyond what she might have expected had she remained within the cab of the truck as the vehicle rolled.

Paramedics and EMTs were among the first responders to the incident, and they rushed to the crash site to tend to the two injured individuals. When they arrived, the wounds sustained by the 20-year-old passenger proved to be too severe for medical intervention, and she was declared dead at the scene of the incident. The driver of the vehicle, a man who was not identified in the initial reports, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was being treated for serious injuries.
