DJ Luis Borges Killed in Orlando Crash
On the last Sunday in August, the very popular Venezuelan DJ Luis Borges was killed in a car crash in Orlando. Borges, who was on vacation in Orlando, was walking along Lake Street near Ruby Lake Road, when a BMW sport-utility vehicle hit him. Since his death, there has been an outpouring of grief and memories for the Grammy nominee on social media.
Orlando Police Officer Injured As Suspect Fled In Vehicle
Law enforcement officers are meant to protect the public. Often times, an officer’s encounter with the public is simple and straight forward – a routine traffic stop or an arrest for shoplifting. At times, however, the occupation can place an officer in significant danger. That is what happened to an eight-year veteran of the Orlando Police Department.
Traffic Fatalities Up 14 Percent This Year
According to a report released on Monday by the National Safety Council, deaths related to auto accidents have increased a whopping 14 percent in the first six months of 2015 compared to the same time period last year. A total of almost 19,000 lives were lost on America’s road and highways, with 1,441 of those occurring in the state of Florida. This number represents a 29 percent increase over 2014. This trend is very troubling to safety officials and they have combed the data looking for answers.
Fire Truck and Ambulance Collide in Miami
A fire truck and an ambulance collided Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Northwest 12th Avenue and Northwest 14th Street in Miami. Both vehicles were working calls at the time and had their sirens and lights on at the time of the accident. The impact of the crash tore off the front of the ambulance and put the heavy fire truck on its side. A total of seven firefighters, four from the fire truck and three from the ambulance, were rushed to area hospitals. Two children and their grandmother, who were all being transported in the ambulance were also injured in the crash.
Lecanto Accident Monday Evening Involves Several Injuries
Kayla Wood, a 22-year-old mother from Inverness, was travelling eastbound on West Grover Cleveland Boulevard, with her boyfriend, 22-year-old Tydree Barrow, and their two young daughters when she crossed the center line and was struck by an oncoming Prius in the passenger side. Both vehicles came to rest on the north side of the road.
Hernando County Accident Results in Five Fatalities
A Chevrolet pickup truck was headed west on U.S. 98 about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning when they approached the intersection with Citrus Way. At the same time, a box truck traveling south on Citrus Way was also approaching the intersection, which has a stop sign and flashing red light for north-south traffic. According to eyewitness accounts, the Chevy pickup began traveling through the intersection, and the approaching southbound semi-truck did not stop for the light or traffic signs. The semi essentially ran the pickup truck over, and it immediately burst into flames.
Florida Crash on Three Oaks Parkway Results in Fatality
A 21-year-old man was driving a 1998 Lexus sedan north along Three Oaks Parkway in Estero on Sunday morning at approximately 2:40 a.m., when he lost control of his vehicle. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Lexus drifted into the grassy median and began to spin clockwise. As the vehicle was rotating, the front end of the car slammed into a tree, bringing it to a stop. It was reported that the driver died at the scene of the accident. The accident remains under investigation and few details are known at this time. It is also unknown if speed or fatigue were factors in the incident.
Single-Vehicle Crash on Florida Turnpike
A 29-year-old woman was killed on the first weekend of July in an accident on Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman, who was driving, lost control of her vehicle and it veered off the road and hit a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the only other passenger suffered minor injuries.
Florida’s Turnpike Crash Kills Father and Son
A crash on the Florida Turnpike near milepost 220 has claimed the life of a father and son from West Palm Beach. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that five family members riding in a northbound vehicle on Florida’s Turnpike, when one of the rear tires blew out or separated causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Woman Killed, Eight Children Injured In Ormond Beach SUV Accident
After a crash occurred in Ormond Beach, Florida, authorities initially believed that a child had died, but it was later discovered that all of the children had lived. It was actually the driver of the vehicle who passed away.
