Lecanto Accident Monday Evening Involves Several Injuries

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 3, 2015

Kayla Wood, a 22-year-old mother from Inverness, was travelling eastbound on West Grover Cleveland Boulevard, with her boyfriend, 22-year-old Tydree Barrow, and their two young daughters when she crossed the center line and was struck by an oncoming Prius in the passenger side. Both vehicles came to rest on the north side of the road.

The driver of the Prius has been identified as 15-year-old Senecia Werling of Lecanto. Werling was accompanied by two adult females and also her younger sister in the Prius. The impact of the accident killed both Wood and Barrow, and injured their two daughters. All occupants of the Prius were also seriously injured and were taken to area hospital. One of women who had been in the Prius, 78-year-old Carmencita Chastin, later died of her injuries. It is unknown at this time how many of the victims involved in the accident were wearing safety restraints.

This accident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, and little is known about the cause of the accident. It is clear that Woods crossed the center line, but the reason why she did so at this time is still unclear. Florida officials have released no details about the condition of Wood’s vehicle, or whether a vehicle malfunction may have contributed to the incident. No one has speculated if some sort of distraction or other outside factor may have also contributed to this tragedy.

All three victims of Monday’s accident leave behind families who will mourn their loss. Not knowing the exact cause of the incident may make it even more painful for those who survived.
