Overturned RV in Maitland Causes Early Morning Traffic Jam

Not much is currently known about an RV accident that took place in Maitland on the morning of Wednesday, September 18th, and resulted in a massive traffic snarl along the western lanes of I-4. What we know about the incident so far comes from a brief report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol as well as a picture taken either by a traffic camera or a helicopter close to the scene.

From the report and the picture, we can piece together several things. The first of these is that the crash happened sometime before 8:15 in the morning. The first reports about the accident reached the emergency dispatchers around this time, and it is likely that the rush hour traffic present at this moment resulted in the accident being seen by numerous witnesses. At the time of this writing, none of the reports from these witnesses has made its way to any sort of public update or news piece.

At the time mentioned above, a large RV was traveling down the western lanes of I-4. It is not clear which of the numerous western lanes the RV was using. As it traveled down the highway, something happened to cause the driver of the RV to lose control of the vehicle. Not able to regain control, the RV was then involved in either a collision or a sudden jerk of the wheel that caused it to overturn and roll onto its side. The picture mentioned above shows the RV laying on its side in the leftmost travel lane. Around it are several fire engines and emergency response crews.

The early reports from the scene of the accident did not indicate whether or not there was anyone inside of the RV other than the driver. The early reports also failed to indicate whether or not this driver and any possible passenger suffered from any injuries as a result of the vehicle overturning. It is not believed that any other vehicles were involved in the accident, which leaves a large question looming as to what exactly caused the incident in the first place.

The crash remains under investigation.
