Orlando Three-Car Crash on S.R. 417 Seriously Injures Two Passengers
According to preliminary investigation details from the Florida Highway Patrol deputies operating within Orange County, two people suffered severe life-threatening injuries during a multi-vehicle collision along State Road 417 early Tuesday morning near the Orlando city limits.
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said that it was approximately 6:40 a.m. on August 24, 2021, when Orange County 9-1-1 dispatchers were first notified of an auto accident involving three vehicles on S.R. 417 near mile marker 24 close to the Dowden Road turn-off. Initial incident reports indicate that an SUV was traveling in the northbound direction of State Road 417 when something happened that caused the driver to unexpectedly veer across the grassy median separating the northern and southern traffic flow. As the sport utility vehicle reached the other side of the highway, it crashed head-on into another passenger car that was driving in the southbound direction. A pickup truck pulling a trailer was also involved in the collision.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Orange County emergency response teams were immediately sent to the crash site to help anyone requiring medical assistance. Upon their arrival, they discovered two severely injured passengers – one from the SUV and one from the other motor vehicle. The male victim from the SUV was transported to a local Orlando Health hospital and the female sedan passenger was taken to the Osceola Regional Medical Center. None of the drivers from this accident sustained any injuries.
The portion of S.R. 417 where the collision occurred was closed for a few hours while wreckers and accident clean-up crews worked to remove the remnants of the crash.
It is unclear at this time if the SUV’s driver will face any legal charges or consequences as a result of his alleged reckless driving, however, that could easily change depending on the outcome of the FHP’s investigation.
