Orlando Police Department Searching for Hit-and-Run Suspect from I-4 Collision
Detectives with the Orlando Police Department are currently searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle believed to be connected with an early morning hit-and-run collision along Interstate 4 on Friday which injured 4 construction workers and one other motorist in the area.
According to investigative officials with the Orlando Police Department, it was approximately 3 a.m. on August 13, 2021, when a newer model, dark-colored SUV was travelling in the eastbound direction down I-4 by a construction zone. As the vehicle approached the off-ramp by Par Street, it crashed into a 2016 black Hyundai Sonata and fled the scene. The impact from the accident was so forceful that it caused the sedan to ricochet off a roadside retaining wall and crash into a group of construction workers who were working in close proximity to the collision.
Orange County emergency response teams arrived at the crash site within minutes of being dispatched and proceeded to assist the badly injured individuals. All four SGL construction workers plus the driver of the Hyundai Sonata were taken to nearby hospitals suffering from a range of injuries from minor to life-threatening. Additional information regarding their conditions has yet to be released to the public.
The eastbound stretch of I-4 where the collision occurred was closed for multiple hours while accident clean-up crews dealt with the aftermath of the crash. Although fuel and other residual liquids from the accident had spilled onto the road’s freshly-poured concrete, workers were able to re-open the interstate quicker than initially projected.
Investigators have yet to track down the driver of the SUV or release any further details surrounding the severe accident. If you have any information regarding the location of the SUV’s driver or the vehicle itself, please contact your local police department or call the Florida Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
