Orange County Head-On Collision Kills Two on Curry Ford Road
Florida Highway Patrol officers operating within Orange County are currently working diligently to determine the exact cause of a deadly head-on collision involving two vehicles that claimed the lives of two men and injured two others early Wednesday evening along Curry Ford Road near Cypress Springs Parkway.
At 6:10 p.m. on August 25, 2021, workers at the 9-1-1 dispatcher’s office in Orange County started to receive the first set of emergency calls referencing a severe auto accident involving a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle on Curry Ford Road close to its intersection with Cypress Springs Parkway. Preliminary collision reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that a 26-year-old man was driving a 2016 Toyota SUV northbound on Curry Ford Road at a high rate of speed while a 37-year-old man from Orlando in a 2021 Ford F-150 pickup truck was simultaneously heading in the southern direction of the same street. As both motorists neared each other, the driver of the SUV suddenly lost control of his vehicle and veered across the road’s grassy median and into the direct path of the oncoming pickup truck. The front driver’s side of the Toyota struck the Ford with so much force that the pickup rolled over on the roadway, authorities said.
Deputies with the Florida Highway Patrol and other local law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene of the accident within a matter of minutes and immediately proceeded to assist the injured individuals in both vehicles. It was quickly discovered that the 37-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 had sustained multiple life-threatening injuries during the collision and had already passed away before medical teams could help. A 5-year-old juvenile male and a 17-year-old female, both passengers in the pickup truck, suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The 26-year-old driver of the Toyota SUV was also taken to the hospital but died shortly after arrival.
Although a formal investigation has been opened by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, no charges have been announced as of yet.
