One Person Killed During a Five-Car Crash in Orlando
Although the official cause of the fatal multi-vehicle pileup has yet to be released to the public, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol have indicated that a 62-year-old woman from Orlando lost her life earlier this morning when the crash occurred along John Young Parkway near Blackstone Drive.
According to preliminary collision reports from investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, when residents living on Burlington Drive, which is close to the crash site, were awoken from their sleep by what they described as an “explosion” type of sound. “I was asleep and suddenly I heard this huge sort of I thought something fell from the sky,” one witness told police. “I’ve been here 32 years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this type of damage to the cars,” another said.
Local Orange County emergency response teams and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the intersection of Blackstone Drive & John Young Parkway shortly after the first set of 9-1-1 calls were placed. Upon their arrival, they discovered that five vehicles had been involved in a severe auto accident. Further assessment of the situation found that two individuals, a 70-year-old man from Orlando and a 62-year-old female passenger from Orlando, were suffering from severe life-threatening injuries and would require immediate medical treatment. Both victims were transported to local hospitals in serious condition, however, the yet-to-be-identified woman was unable to survive her injuries and she passed away shortly thereafter.
Two residents of Kissimmee, a 29-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries during the collision, and another 29-year-old man from Kissimmee from a different vehicle was said to be in critical condition after the incident took place. One more individual, a 49-year-old man, was unharmed during the accident.
