Ocala Man Killed During Head-On Crash Along U.S. Highway 441
Four people were injured and one individual was killed during a serious head-on collision last Friday evening along U.S. Highway 441 in Marion County, according to preliminary reports from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Early details from the Florida Highway Patrol regarding this fatal auto accident indicate that it was roughly 7:45 p.m. on April 28, 2023, when a 62-year-old Ocala resident was driving a sedan-style vehicle in the southbound direction of U.S. Highway 441 near NW 95th Street. At this same time, an SUV transporting four people – an 11-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl, a 43-year-old woman, and a 45-year-old man in the driver’s seat – was approaching the upcoming intersection from the northbound direction of the highway.
For reasons that are currently under investigation, right before both vehicles entered the intersection, the driver of the sedan suddenly swerved across the roadway through the grassy median that divides the highway. This positioned the sedan in the direct path of the oncoming SUV and the two vehicles were involved in a head-on crash.
The impact from the two-vehicle accident caused the 62-year-old driver to be ejected from his vehicle. He sustained severe, life-ending injuries during the incident and passed away at the scene. Marion County authorities state that he was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred.
The driver and three passengers from the sport utility vehicle, all Wesley Chapel residents, suffered minor injuries.
No additional updates have been released at this time.
Experience You Can Count On
When deadly auto accidents such as this take place, it can be easy to assume that the fault lies with the driver of the vehicle, however, there are other factors that could have contributed to the fatal collision, including dangerous driving conditions due to bad weather, poorly maintained roads, or a mechanical malfunction/defect with the vehicle itself.
