Head-On Crash in Deltona Kills 48-Year-Old SUV Passenger
According to preliminary reports from officials with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, one person died and three people were injured during a severe head-on collision this past weekend in Deltona.
Responding officers with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office indicate that it was close to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, when one individual, who has yet to be identified, was driving a silver Dodge SUV in the northern direction of Lake Helen Osteen Road with 48-year-old Candido Soto Jr. as a passenger. As the sport utility vehicle approached the 2900th block Lake Helen Osteen Road, a driver behind the wheel of an oncoming Ford Mustang suffered a medical episode and passed out. After veering out-of-control back and forth between the street and the shoulder of the road, the Ford Mustang eventually crossed back over into the SUV’s lane and crashed into it head on.
Local emergency responders in the city of Deltona and authorities with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of the auto accident. They immediately secured the seriously-injured Candido Soto Jr. for transport and he was taken to AdventHealth Deltona. He was unable to survive his life-threatening injuries and passed away shortly upon arrival.
The three other car crash victims were also taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
This deadly collision is currently under investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office crime scene and traffic homicide units. No official charges have been filed at this time.
