Florida SUV Rollover Accident on State Road 40
Near where State Road 40 and State Road 11 meet in Florida, an automobile accident occurred in the afternoon of Tuesday, November 26, 2014. The accident occurred when an SUV carrying the 27-year-old Jamie Desmarais and the 23-year-old Jessica Marcus, both Pierson residents, was struck by a pickup truck driven by the 66-year-old James Hanis, a resident of Seville, overturning both vehicles.
The story as recounted by emergency responders and witnesses is that Desmarais and Marcus were driving east on State Road 40 when they lost control of their vehicle. The SUV began to spin wildly, eventually making it so that they were traveling backwards on the westbound side of the road. Unable to avoid the SUV, Hanis ploughed into it with his pickup, and both vehicles overturned.
Due to the force of the impact, both Desmarais and Marcus were thrown from their vehicle while it was rolling. Paramedics say that the two of them were probably killed immediately upon falling out of the car. Hanis was alive when the emergency responders arrived at the scene, but his injuries were quite serious, and he was immediately taken to the Halifax Medical Center for treatment.
As of now, his condition is unknown, and the police are waiting for word from the hospital before issuing any further statements regarding his health.
The other unknown in this case revolves around the SUV, Desmarais, and Marcus. Specifically, it is unclear who exactly was driving at the time of the incident, and it is further unclear why exactly that person lost control of the vehicle when they did. There will be the customary toxicology report, and perhaps this will shed some more light on the incident.
No other cars were involved in the accident, and traffic was not tremendously interrupted during the cleanup; however, the crash is still definitely under investigation. Most importantly, and as has already been stated, the primary question revolves around the SUV and who was driving it at the time of the incident. Law enforcement officials will be releasing further information as they gather it, and they hope to resolve all questions relatively quickly.
