Five Young Adults Killed During a Wrong-Way Crash in Miami-Dade County
The lives of five young victims were tragically cut short over the weekend after a wrong-way driver struck their vehicle on Palmetto Expressway close to Northwest 57th Avenue in Miami-Dade County.
According to preliminary reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, when 30-year-old Maiky Simeon was driving a silver Nissan Infiniti in the eastbound direction in the westbound lanes of Palmetto Expressway. As the silver sedan approached the vicinity of Northwest 57th Avenue, it crashed head-on into an oncoming gray Honda carrying five individuals.
Local Miami-Dade County emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of the severe car accident and were able to successfully remove four women and one man from the badly damaged Honda sedan, however, despite their best efforts, all five individuals were pronounced dead before they could be transported to the hospital. The crash victims were 18-25 years of age.
“About 4:31 a.m., we received a call of a car accident on the 826 and 57th Avenue. We found two cars crashed and multiple injuries and unfortunately a few deaths,” said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Division Chief Marc Chavers in a statement to the press.
The 30-year-old driver of the Infiniti, Maiky Simeon, suffered serious life-threatening injuries during the car accident and was taken by air to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami. His current condition is unknown.
