Father’s Day Car Crash Kills 40-Year-Old Dad in Duval County
Since the start of 2021, officers in Northern Florida have seen a dramatic and alarming increase in the amount of calls they’ve responded to regarding an auto accident with potential fatalities. Jacksonville authorities in particular have recorded over 100 deaths on their local roadways and over the weekend, they sadly had to add another victim to their grim list as a 40-year-old father of two was tragically killed in a car crash Sunday morning along Cassat Avenue.
According to official reports from Lt. Rich Buoye and additional detectives with the JSO Traffic Homicide Unit, it was approximately 10 a.m. Father’s Day morning when a yet-to-be-named 40-year-old Jacksonville man and his two young children were driving in the northern direction of Cassat Avenue in a Ford Fusion. As the family’s sedan approached the road’s intersection with Park Street, something within the vehicle caused the driver to lose control of the car and careen into the opposite lane of Cassat Avenue before finally coming to a stop when it crashed into a nearby chain-link fence.
Duval County and Jacksonville emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident within minutes of its occurrence and shortly after their arrival, local EMTs discovered a 7-year-old boy suffering from minor head injuries and a 6-year-old girl suffering from minor lacerations. Both children were transported to a local hospital for treatment and are said to be in good condition at the time of this writing. Unfortunately, their 40-year-old dad had sustained severe injuries during the collision and he passed away before rescue teams had a chance to administer medical assistance.
Although the investigation into this fatal accident is currently ongoing, Lt. Buoye with the JSO Traffic Homicide Unit believes that excessive speed could’ve played a factor, as well as the dangerous roadway conditions on Cassat Avenue, which were reported as “slippery and soaked” by first responders. “Nothing is more precious than life, and nothing is so important that we have to drive beyond our means or too fast or too fast for conditions. So drive safe, be careful and let’s arrive alive,” he said in a statement to the press.
