Dunnellon Woman Killed During T-Bone Collision on State Road 200
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are starting an investigation this morning into a deadly two-car crash that killed one individual and injured another last night on State Road 200 in Marion County.
According to preliminary auto accident reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, it was about five minutes before 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023, when a 23-year-old woman from Ocala was driving a Nissan Altima in the eastern direction of S.R. 200 near Dunnellon. At this same time, a 33-year-old woman from Dunnellon had just exited the Oak Run subdivision in a Honda Insight, heading in the northbound direction of SW 110th Street.
Authorities state that the 33-year-old driver of the Honda had the green light right-of-way as she approached the area of SW 110th Street and State Road 200. She proceeded to enter the intersection while the 23-year-old driver of the Nissan ran the red light that was controlling her flow of traffic. The two drivers were unable to avoid an accident and they were involved in a severe T-bone collision.
Marion County emergency response teams were dispatched to the crash site and discovered that the 33-year-old Dunnellon woman had sustained life-ending injuries. She was declared dead at the scene.
The 23-year-old Ocala woman was transported to HCA West Marion Hospital and received treatment for minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts when the fatal collision occurred and speed is not believed to have been a factor. No additional information has been released to the public at this time. Further details are expected at the conclusion of this case.
