Driver Injured After Car Drives Through Ocala Business

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 3, 2020

When we are inside of buildings, we don’t often expect to have to avoid cars. This is, however, something that occasionally happens, especially when drivers lose control of their vehicles while traveling down residential streets or streets close to shops and stores. While in these locations, a loss of control or collision that might otherwise result in a driver landing in a ditch or perhaps striking a tree sees cars crashing through shop windows, front doors, and living room walls.

Such was the case in Ocala on Tuesday, August 25th, when a vehicle traveling close to the intersection of 24th Street and 3rd Avenue lost control of their vehicle and exited the roadway. At the time, they were driving parallel to a parking lot of the Auto Mall located on Pine Avenue. When the driver lost control of the car, the vehicle departed from the roadway and then entered the parking lot for the Auto Mall.

The driver, who Ocala Police stated was under the influence of drugs (although it is not clear what evidence they currently possess), was not able to regain control of their vehicle as it made its way through the parking lot. During the period of time while the car was out of control but still moving, it crashed into a concrete pole stuck into the ground with enough force that the pole crumbled while the car contained to move. The vehicle only came to a stop after crashing into the Auto Mall itself.

Fortunately, no one was inside of the building at the time of the incident, a fact which very possibly saved numerous individuals from injury or death. As it was, the only person directly affected by the crash was the driver of the vehicle. This person was alone in the car during the crash and was still within the vehicle when authorities reached the area. The driver was taken from the car and treated for minor injuries. Ocala Police stated that the injuries were commensurate with what one could expect from not wearing a seatbelt.

It is not known if any charges are currently pending.
