Collision in Osceola County Results in Death of 66-Year-Old
It was mid-morning on Monday, December 23rd, when troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Osceola County began to receive reports of a car crash that took place in the vicinity of the intersection of U.S. 192 and the road called Celebration Place. Members of the FHP as well as teams from other various emergency response organizations rushed to the location indicated by the calls and discovered the aftermath of a collision between two vehicles: a pickup truck and another car that was not described in the report.
From the details provided by the Florida Highway Patrol, we know that the incident began while a 66-year-old individual – who was not named in either the immediate report or the subsequent updates throughout the day – was behind the wheel of his car and driving down the eastern lanes of U.S 192. At the same time, a 57-year-old Kissimmee resident was driving down the western lanes of U.S. 192. The Kissimmee man was behind the wheel of a Toyota pickup truck.
It was not clear in the report if the area was experiencing inclement weather or if perhaps the road conditions in the area were unusually hazardous shortly before the collision. It was also not clear if perhaps the 66-year-old was drowsy at the time or if they began to experience a medical emergency. Also possible is that excessive speed or the consumption of unknown substances played a role. Regardless, what is clear is that shortly before 7:15 the 66-year-old lost control of their car and drifted from the eastern lanes into the western lanes.
The driver of the pickup truck was either far enough along the western lanes or perceptive enough to avoid a head-on collision with the 66-year-old’s car, but neither of the drivers were able to prevent a collision from taking place. As a result, the 66-year-old suffered from severe injuries. It is not clear if the 57-year-old also experienced injuries as a result of the crash.
The report did not indicate if the 66-year-old was alive at the time that first responders reached the area, but it is clear that they were declared dead sometime after the collision took place.
The incident remains under investigation.
