68-Year-Old Dead After Single Car Crash in Marion County
Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol began to emerge in the middle of December regarding an auto accident that resulted in the death of a 68-year-old individual. According to these reports, it was just before midnight on Saturday, December 14th, and the man, a Dunnellon resident, was behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado and traveling down the northern lane of Southwest 129th Terrace Road.
What exactly happened is not, and may never be, clear. It is not known if any witnesses were at the scene of the crash, and it is also not believed that anyone else was inside of the truck at the moment when the driver lost control. Because of this, we are left questioning whether or not it was something within the roadway that caused the driver to swerve, whether it was the result of drowsy driving, or whether some other factor contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
It was as the Silverado was nearing a sharp, leftward curve in the road that the fatal incident happened. As mentioned above, the precise reasons are obscure, but the driver lost control of the vehicle. In the ensuing moments, the Silverado left the roadway and onto the right shoulder. Before the driver was able to regain control of the vehicle, the truck hit a small rise in the grass, jumped over a driveway, and them came to a halt after crashing mightily into a tree planted near to the driveway and the road.
It is not known who called the emergency response crews to the area, but when they arrived it is not believed that paramedics or EMTs were able to do anything for the 68-year-old driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. It is not known if the man leaves behind any family or if there are friends who will be among the mourners. The investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol into the reasons behind the crash remains underway, and it is hoped that the public will have more information soon regarding the precise reasons for this fatal incident.
It is not known if any testing for the presence of alcohol or other substances has been initiated.
