29-Year-Old Dies in Orange City After Pickup Truck Rollover Accident
Police operating within Orange City are working to close an investigation into a fatal auto accident that happened within the city limits on Saturday, December 19th. According to a report from the investigating authorities, the incident happened very early in the morning, close to 1:00, and involved a single vehicle: a Chevy S10 pickup truck. The driver of this pickup truck was a 29-year-old individual, believed to be a resident of DeLand.
The events leading to the crash remain under investigation, but what we know so far is that the driver was behind the wheel of the truck and nearing the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Monastery Avenue when something happened to cause them to lose control of their vehicle. The driver was alone in the truck at the time, and it appears that no other cars, trucks, pedestrians, or cyclists were near them at the time when they lost control of their vehicle.
The crash was reported to emergency dispatchers by members of the community, and soon teams from Orange City Police and Fire Rescue were at the scene. When they arrived, they discovered that after the driver lost control of the truck, the pickup swerved off of the roadway and into a water run-off. After hitting the run-off, the truck became so destabilized that it flipped over. The driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, and as the truck rolled they were thrown from one of the truck’s windows.
The injuries that the pickup truck’s driver sustained in the crash were severe, and the paramedics and EMTs who reached the area were reportedly unable to do anything to medically assist the individual. The 29-year-old was declared dead at the scene.
At the time of this writing, the Orange City Police Department is still working to uncover what happened to cause the fatal accident. As there were no known witnesses to the crash, they are asking that anyone who might have any information relating to the collision to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
The Chevy S10 was the only vehicle involved in the incident, and the 29-year-old driver was the only person immediately affected by the crash.
