19-Year-Old Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Cocoa Motorcycle Accident on U.S. 1
Motorcycle accidents are on the rise here in the state of Florida as many motorcyclists retrieve their choppers from storage, rev up their engines, dust off their saddlebags, and take to the wide open roads to enjoy the glorious return of our regular warm and welcoming weather. Sadly, one such incident occurred earlier this week on March 24th, 2021, when a 19-year-old biker suffered severe life-threatening injuries after he was involved in a high-speed collision with an SUV along U.S. 1 in Cocoa.
It was approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning when on-duty officers in Brevard County first received 9-1-1 calls regarding a potentially fatal auto accident involving a motorcycle and a Jeep Grand Cherokee sport utility vehicle along the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 near Peachtree Street. According to preliminary reports from the Cocoa Police Department, a 19-year-old unidentified motorcyclist was driving his bike at a high rate of speed in the northern direction of U.S. 1 when an oncoming SUV entered the area. For reasons that are unknown at this time, the driver of the SUV attempted to make an eastbound turn onto Peachtree Street and in doing so, positioned their vehicle in the direct path of the speeding teenage biker.
Presumably unable to stop or avoid a collision with the Jeep due to his high rate of speed, the young motorcyclist crashed into the SUV with considerable force. Although he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the biker sustained serious injuries and was medevaced to a local hospital by emergency response teams operating in Brevard County. The occupants inside the Jeep Grand Cherokee were uninjured but understandably shaken.
“The motorcyclist, according to witnesses, was traveling at a high-rate of speed when he hit a vehicle,” stated Cocoa Police Department Yvonne Martinez. This motorcycle accident is currently under investigation by the Cocoa Police Department. No further information has been released to the public.
