18-Year-Old Coral Springs Man Killed in Brevard County Car Crash on I-95
On Saturday, March 27th, an 18-year-old individual from Coral Springs was traveling within a car down the northern lanes of Interstate 95 when they were involved in a car accident. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, it was shortly after midnight when the 18-year-old was driving down I-95 and nearing mile marker 162 within Brevard County. In the car at the time was a 16-year-old who was not otherwise identified in the report.
No other vehicles were involved at the time of the crash, and it is not believed that anyone other than the 18-year-old driver and their 16-year-old passenger were present at the scene when something happened to cause them to lose control of their car. The reports state that the vehicle left the roadway and headed straight towards a pole standing along the highway’s shoulder. Before the driver was able to regain control of their vehicle, the car struck the pole with a considerable amount of force, causing both the driver and the passenger to sustain injuries.
It is not known who first notified the authorities about the incident, but we know that shortly after the crash took place, members of the Florida Highway Patrol as well as paramedics and EMTs from the surrounding area rushed to the crash site. When they arrived, the emergency medical personnel began tending to the injured couple within the car. Due to the severity of the injuries the 18-year-old driver sustained as a result of the collision, there was nothing that the medical teams could do for them, and this person passed away at the crash site.
The 16-year-old was airlifted from the accident scene and transported to Holmes Regional Hospital where they were treated for injuries described as being minor.
We know that the 16-year-old was wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash, a fact which likely contributed to their injuries not being more severe. The reports stated that it was not clear if the 18-year-old driver was also wearing their seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The crash is currently still under investigation as members of the Florida Highway Patrol in Brevard County attempt to discover just what caused the driver to lose control in the first place.
