Pedestrian Killed During an Intersection Crash in Orlando
Preliminary incident reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that one person was killed and several others were injured Thursday evening during a two-vehicle crash close to the intersection of 23rd Street and South Nashville Avenue in Orlando.
According to local Orange County authorities, it was approximately 5:45 p.m. on October 6, 2022, when a 17-year-old Orlando resident was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima in the eastern direction of 23rd Street. At this same time, a 68-year-old man, also from Orlando, was driving his 2009 Dodge Ram northbound along South Nashville Avenue. As the teenage driver approached the area where the two streets meet, he proceeded to disregard the stop sign governing the intersection and the Dodge Ram slammed into the passenger’s side of the Nissan Altima.
The force from the impact of the first collision propelled the Nissan Altima up onto a nearby sidewalk where the vehicle crashed into a group of four pedestrians who were simply enjoying a leisurely stroll.
Florida Highway Patrol officers and Orange County emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the grisly accident and sadly discovered that one of the pedestrians, a 44-year-old woman from Orlando, had sustained severe injuries and died as a result. The three additional pedestrians were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.
The 17-year-old driver of the Nissan Altima and his 17-year-old passenger were both transported to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for further medical treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. They are expected to make a full recovery. The 68-year-old driver of the Dodge Ram was unharmed in the accident.
This fatal auto accident is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Formal charges have yet to be filed.
