Orlando Man Killed During Hit-and-Run Crash on Sand Lake Road
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol are currently searching for an individual believed to be involved in an early morning hit-and-run collision along Sand Lake Road that fatally injured a 48-year-old man from Orlando.
According to troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Orange County, it was close to 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, when a yet-to-be-identified driver of a 2020 Kia Sedona was heading in the eastbound direction of West Sand Lake Road. Witness statements retrieved from the scene indicate that as this driver approached the vicinity of South John Young Parkway, they attempted to make a left turn onto the street but instead positioned their vehicle directly in front of an oncoming 2010 Nissan Altima. Neither driver was able to avoid a collision and the two cars were involved in a head-on crash.
The impact from the auto accident pushed the Nissan Altima from the roadway and through the grassy median where it finally came to a complete stop after it slammed into a nearby pedestrian crosswalk traffic signal.
Immediately after the collision, the driver of the Kia Sedona fled the scene on foot. Although the owner of the vehicle has since been spoken to, the person behind the wheel of the Sedona when the crash occurred has not been located.
Orlando emergency responders and Florida Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene of the deadly collision within a matter of minutes and urgently began applying life-saving measures to the severely-injured 48-year-old driver of the Nissan Altima. Despite their best efforts, the Orlando resident did not survive.
