Fire Destroys Ocklawaha Mobile Home, Kills 10-Year-Old

On Thursday, early in the morning, emergency dispatchers in Marion County were called in regards to a fire taking place at a mobile home located at 5630 SE 183rd Avenue Road. This address, located within the city limits of Ocklawaha, was the location of a mobile home where a family was living. When firefighters with the Marion County Fire Department arrived, they found the mobile home almost completely consumed by fire. Battling the flames with their hoses, firefighters were able to beat back the blaze enough to begin rescuing those trapped inside.

Train vs Truck Accident in Green Cove Springs

One person is reported dead following a train vs truck accident that happened nearby Green Cove Springs, Florida. According to a report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), two people were inside the truck when it was hit by an oncoming Amtrak train that had recently left Orlando and was on its way to New York City. The crash left the passenger, a 38 year old male, dead at the scene and the 41 year old male driver seriously injured.

Semi Burst into Flames After Crash in Brevard County

A semi-truck driver died last weekend following a crash with another truck in Brevard County, Florida. The 61 year old male semi-truck driver was traveling on Interstate 95 just north of mile marker 223 when he rear ended another semi-truck directly in front of him.

Venus Williams Cites Contributory Negligence in Florida Wrongful Death Suit

Tennis star Venus Williams has responded to a Florida wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a June fatal car accident that she was involved in that left a 78 year old man dead. According to legal documents, Williams denies that she contributed in any way to the death or injuries of the other passengers. Instead, she cites contributory negligence, arguing that the plaintiffs were negligent in their failure to wear seatbelts and that this was the sole cause of their injuries and the death. The defense also claims that the vehicle owners failed to properly maintain and repair their vehicle and that this too contributed to their injuries/death.

Moped Driver Killed in Lake County Hit and Run Incident

A 26 year old male was killed when his moped was hit by two different vehicles in Lake County, Florida. Following the accident, one of the vehicles fled the scene. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the 26 year old male was driving his moped, along with an 18 year old female passenger, southbound on County Road 437 at the time of the accident.

Second Teenager in Two Months Dies in Marion County Quarry

On Monday morning, a group of teenagers snuck onto the property of limestone quarry in Ocala in order to swim and dive off of the steep rock face into the deep water. One of them, a 17-year-old Largo resident named Trey Austin Dagwan Cardoza, was performing a jump into the water when, according to some of the others at the scene, he plunged beneath the surface of the water and never came back up.

7-Year-Old Girl Drowns in St. Cloud Community Pool

This past Saturday, the community of St. Cloud was shaken by the appalling drowning of a 7-year-old girl in a local community pool. According to the St. Cloud Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 5 in the evening, while numerous others were also in and around the water. Located at 2050 Remembrance Avenue, the pool is a much loved location for St. Cloud locals in general and Anthem Park residents in particular to gather together and stave off the brutal heat that so often plagues the area.

Identities Discovered in Fatal Malabar House Fire

The town of Malabar received a shock earlier in June when a fire consumed two-story house located at 855 Atz Road. The fire, which leveled the building, also took the lives of three individuals. Their bodies were discovered by members of the fire department after the flames were subdued and the destroyed building deemed enterable. Due to the violent nature of the house fire, the bodies were at first unidentifiable. However, after consulting dental records, the authorities are now certain that the three individuals who perished in the June 11th fire were the 39-year-old Chrissy Hughes, her sister, the 39-year-old Linda Woods, and Hughes’ son, the 9-year-old Sebastian Meachum.
