Rear-End Collision Near Disney World Congests Traffic for Hours
One person sustained critical injuries earlier this morning after two semi-trucks crashed along a busy stretch of interstate near Disney World in Osceola County.
According to preliminary reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, it was 5:15 a.m. when a 41-year-old man from Lakeland was driving a septic tank truck in the westbound direction of Interstate 4 in Kissimmee. At this same time, a 27-year-old Cape Coral man driving a 2022 Kia Forte and a 37-year-old Kissimmee man driving a Walmart semi-truck were stopped at an intersection near the World Drive exit ramp. The driver of the septic tank truck failed to yield for the approaching traffic and rear-ended the other semi-truck.
The force from the first collision caused the Walmart truck to be propelled forward into the back of the Kia Forte. Neither driver from these two vehicles were injured during the crash.
The 41-year-old driver of the septic truck lost control of his vehicle after the initial auto accident occurred and the truck overturned on the interstate before finally coming to a stop on the side of the road.
Troopers with Florida Highway Patrol and Osceola County emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene and after their professional assessment, they medevaced the 41-year-old Lakeland man to Osceola Regional Hospital in critical condition. “Fire rescue, along with other crews, had to lift the pressure off of this occupant to get them out. They were there for quite some time,” said Trooper Steve Montiero, a long-time Traffic Safety Expert with the News 6 morning team.
The passenger of the septic tank truck suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
This multi-vehicle collision is currently under investigation by local authorities. No charges have been filed at this time and further updates are expected to be released once a sufficient conclusion has been reached.
