Eleven-Year-Old Fatally Injured During a Semi-Truck Crash on U.S. 27

According to preliminary collision reports, an eleven-year-old child was killed and eight other people suffered a variety of injuries yesterday afternoon during an accident with a tractor-trailer on U.S. 27 along the county line of Broward and Palm Beach.

Authorities in Broward and Palm Beach counties, who are currently sharing investigative duties due to the location of the incident, indicate that it was shortly after 2:45 p.m. on March 9, 2022, when an SUV carrying two 31-year-old adults and seven children was traveling down the northbound lanes of U.S 27. As the family from Miami-Dade County approached the section of the highway near mile marker 47.7, their vehicle was rear-ended by a semi-truck that was driving in the same lane. The force of impact from the collision caused the SUV to spin out of control down U.S. 27 before finally coming to a stop in the left lane of the highway.

Several local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene of the accident, including troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and members of the Palm Beach County and Broward County fire departments. In total, rescuers found nine crash victims two 31-year-old adults, a 3-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl, two 7-year-old boys, an 8-year-old boy, an 11-year-old boy, and a 14-year-old girl. Everyone required additional medical treatment and they were all transported by ambulance and helicopter, depending on the severity of the injuries. Sadly, the 11-year-old boy was unable to survive his injuries and he passed away at Broward Health Medical Center soon after arriving in the emergency department.

The only person who was unharmed in the collision was the driver of the tractor-trailer.

Although it is currently unclear as to what exactly happened to cause the fatal collision, officials have started a routine investigation into the accident.
