Tractor-Trailer Flips and Burns on I-95 in Brevard County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 7, 2017

Very early on Thursday morning, part Interstate 95, cutting through Brevard County, was shut down due to a fiery accident that resulted in a semi-truck and trailer being engulfed in flames. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash took place close to Grant-Valkaria, at Interstate 95’s 164th mile marker. Details about the accident are scarce, but the facts that have been released so far indicate that the truck erupted into flames after an accident that saw the truck itself flipping over several times. Little is known about the number of injured, but it has been confirmed that at least one person was hurt in the crash. No news regarding their condition, whether or not they were taken to the hospital, or if the injuries were life threatening has been released.

As the Florida Highway Patrol worked to clear up the area, a large portion of Interstate 95 was closed down: all lanes headed south, from the exit leading to Malabar Road to the Indian River County exit leading to Fellsmere, were closed. This represents a nearly 15-mile swath of road. While the lanes were closed, Florida Highway Patrol members redirected motorists along U.S. 1 and the southern lanes of Babcock Street.

This particular case has far more unanswered questions than answered ones, and in the coming days we can expect the Florida Highway Patrol to release far more information regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident, how many cars were involved, whether or not more than one person was injured, how bad/life-threatening the injuries suffered in the crash were, and whether or not any charges are being brought against any individuals as a result of the investigation.

Highway accidents are some of the most dangerous automobile incidents due to the traditionally high rate of speed at which they happen. A car crash is one thing when the vehicles are traveling at 25-miles-an-hour, but when the speeds get upwards of 75 and 80-miles-per-hour the story changes, the level of carnage rises, and the possibility of injuries grows in leaps and bounds.
