Lake County Crash Between Pickup and Semi Results in Single Death
A head-on collision in Lake County during the early morning of Saturday, March 14th resulted in a hefty investigation on the part of the Florida Highway Patrol following a single fatality. Much about the nature of the crash currently remains either unknown or uncertain pending the outcome of the investigation. We do know, however, that two vehicles, a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer, were involved.
Behind the wheel of the pickup was a 20-year-old man from the Lake County town of Mascotte. This person was driving their car down the northern lanes of Bluff Lake Road around 4:20 in the morning when they reached the intersection of Bluff Lake Road and Covington Road. At this same time, a tractor-trailer was traveling down Bluff Lake Road’s southern lanes.
The reports from the Florida Highway Patrol give no indication as to whether or not alcohol or excessive speed was a factor in the incident. They also do not report on whether or not it is possible that the 20-year-old suffered from some sort of medical complication that perhaps resulted in them experiencing a sudden emergency. What we do know is that when the two vehicles drew near to passing one another the young driver suddenly swerved their vehicle out of the northern lanes and into the southern lanes, straight into the path of the oncoming truck.
The driver of the tractor-trailer did not have time to avoid the oncoming pickup truck, and the two vehicles instead collided head-on with a significant amount of force. It is not known if the driver of the pickup was alive by the time emergency medical teams reached the area, but we do know that they were declared dead at some point by a medical examiner.
The reports did not include any information regarding the condition of the semi-truck driver. It is entirely possible that this individual did not suffer any sort of adverse effects as a result of the accident, something that frequently results from a larger vehicle colliding with a much smaller one. The incident remains under investigation as members of the Florida Highway Patrol continue to piece together just what took place to cause the fatal crash.
It is not believed that any charges are currently pending.
