One Pedestrian Killed and One Critically Injured in Orange County SUV Accident
According to the preliminary collision reports from the Florida Highway Patrol operating within Orange County, one man was killed and another was critically injured after they were involved in a deadly SUV vs. pedestrian accident along Goldenrod Road and Barksdale Drive on Monday, February 15th, 2021.
It was approximately 9:25 p.m. last Monday evening when troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were initially notified of a potentially fatal auto accident between a pedestrian and an SUV close to the intersection of Barksdale Drive and Goldenrod Road in Orange County. Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered a 52-year-old male pedestrian and a 65-year-old male pedestrian lying in the roadway and suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries. Emergency medical teams rushed to give aid to both gentlemen, however, the 52-year-old victim was not able to survive the severity of his injuries and he passed away at the scene. The 65-year-old was stabilized for transport to a local hospital where he is said to be in critical condition at the time of this writing.
Witnesses from the scene assisted the Florida Highway Patrol in reconstructing the events leading up to the fatal collision. Their statements indicate that the SUV that allegedly caused the fatal pedestrian accident was traveling northbound along Goldenrod Road when the 52-year-old victim stepped out into the road in order to cross the street. It is important to note that the victim was not in a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash. It appears that the SUV’s driver was unable to avoid the 52-year-old and the front of their vehicle struck the victim. The force of impact from this first crash caused the SUV to veer off onto the eastern shoulder of the road and strike the other 62-year-old victim who was seated on a nearby curb. The SUV finally came to a rest after crashing into a utility pole.
It is currently unclear whether or not the driver of the SUV will face any legal consequences as a result of this deadly car crash, as this case is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
